Chefs Improv Series Kickoff

The men and women in Pittsburgh's top kitchens and SFP have joined forces in a new Monday night series called Chefs Improv. Why Monday? It's chefs' night off.

On each of these special Mondays, one of Pittsburgh's top toques will invite three or four creative colleagues into his or her kitchen to stir up a storm. Spontaneity is the only rule. Focus is fresh and local.

There'll be no menu. Call it a Power Potluck--one part Iron Chef, one part Foodie House Party. Restaurants will take turns playing host.

Time: 7 pm

Where: Vivo
565 Lincoln Ave., Bellevue

The Chefs: Sam DiBattista, Douglass Dick, Michele Savoia, Chris Frangiadis

Remember: Vivo is BYOB

In the Improv opener, host Sam DiBattista will lend aprons to Douglass Dick of Bona Terra, Michele Savoia of Dish, and Chris Frangiadis of Simply French.

Come and be surprised. These guys have ingredients in their fridge they'll love to go overboard with for us. The mood is playful. Kitchen chemistry will be hot. Chefs will sit with us when dinner is served.

This is Vivo's brainchild. Sam's excited. AND he's hiring a jazz band.

Can't make this one? More Improvs are set July 25, Sept. 12, Oct. 24. Look for La Foret, Café Zao, Kaya and other Slow-friendly Pittsburgh restaurants to show their stuff on these Monday nights. Event style will be set by the host chef.

A small portion of the proceeds will support SFP efforts to build strong markets for Western Pennsylvania's ecologically responsible and talented producers of fine local food.
